This was a presentation about finances that I had to do for my Junior Seminar class. I had to teach my peers about an area of my choosing as part of our Build A Life project. I chose to present on how credit cards work and how you can get them. I had been using my own credit card for a while now, so I had a basic understanding beforehand. However, my research gave me a lot more detailed information then I was aware of.
This project demonstrates my communication skills. I had to explain a concept that many of my peers have heard of, but never looked into. This was the first time in a while that my classmates didn't have any background information. That was the hardest part of this assignment. I improved my ability to explain things in a very simple way, and to look at how my peers were understanding.
I enjoyed teaching them about a concept that I thought they were not well versed on. It was a great opportunity to shed some light on a part of life that many people were scared of. Many students had been using debit cards up to that point and were scared of credit cards. Credit cards don't have to be intimidating and there is a lot of benefits that come with them. In the future I hope to have more presentations like this, where I can teach others valuable information.
If I were to start over I would include more imagery to better convey my ideas. Explaining them through me talking can only be so effective. Some concepts are more complicated and need a video or series of images to be understood. I could have used the videos I used to research this in my presentation.
