In this assignment we had to research an animal that was an example of adaptive radiation. It had to look like a newspaper. A minimum of 6 paragraphs were required. We needed a phylogenetic tree. We had to make our final product in Canva.
I chose this assignment because I think it shows that I'm capable of researching topics that I come up with. I can look into my passions and find success on my own. This project had very little restrictions so I was free to research what I wanted. This is an example of how I can be responsible for my own learning and education. I have been researching things that I'm interested in for a long time.
This project represents self-directional skills. I had to find my own animal and find my own sources. I chose to not pick a honeycreeper and instead research the blind mole rat. This was a very fun project because of the freedom that we were given. Even though it may have been more difficult than a normal animal I was still able to thrive.
This challenged my self-directional skill. My animal was more unique so it was harder to find sources. Most of the articles had highly specialized vocabulary that I couldn't understand. It tested my patience as I had to go through all these articles to find information. It was more fun to do my own animal that the honeycreepers though.
I could improve on my writing skills. I need to start going through after writing papers and making sentences flow better. Most of the time my sentences are very abrupt. I do IXL to learn new skills to improve my writing abilities. I hope that my skills will improve greatly after taking English 100 next year.
